 Writing and Publishing Updates

I'm juggling three separate projects at once: Reviewing the audiobook files for LITANY FOR A BROKEN WORLD, finalizing the edits for EVERY SKY A STRANGER, and starting the drafting process for COMPASS FOR THE LOST.

I'm about halfway through reviewing the audiobook files. It's definitely a strange experience to hear my own words in someone else's voice. It astounds me how well Sheree Galpert has interpreted the story. She makes it come alive in a completely different way than I have experienced it before.

The edits have come back from Karen Conlin for book 2 and I remain constitutionally unable to keep certain things straight: comma usage, the subjunctive, and when to use lay/lie/laid/lain. After 7 projects together, I still get it wrong. And Karen still tries to teach me with what I consider are overly optimistic comments in the margins. Happily, there are no major WTF moments in the manuscript.

Somewhere in the midst of all of this, I also need to head into production mode for book 2. I have a concept cover sketch from Chris Howard that is spot on. Hoping to share it here in a newsletter soon!

And speaking of Chris Howard, he just released his 10th novel: ALL TOMORROW'S STARPARTIES, a gritty near-future science fiction with strong astronomy & astrophotography themes. I was lucky enough to get to read an early draft of this and really enjoyed it. Congrats, Chris!

And, wouldn't you know it, I've gotten ideas for three new stories in the past week. The struggle to put aside the new shiny thing is real. But put it aside, I will.

Before I write anything else, I need to stick the landing with the Entangled Realities series. I already have some of the plot threads nailed down for book 3 and I'm working through the rest.

Readercon 2026

Except for the Broad Universe Rapidfire Reading, I will probably not be on programming at Readercon this year. This was entirely my fault. I missed the call for participants sometime at the begining of the year as I was in the thick of recovering from my December surgery.

I will definitely miss being on panels, but I will be at the con and looking forward to seeing and hanging out with my reader and writer friends. Also, look for me at the Broad Universe table in the bookshop. Depending on logistics, I may have a release party for EVERY SKY A STRANGER, so stay tuned!

Statement on "AI" use

I do not and will not employ so called "AI" (e.g. Large Language Models/LLMs) in any part of my writing process. All of my work - poetry, fiction, and non fiction - is 100% human generated.  The tools I use in writing either do not have AI integrated or I have disabled it. I commission cover art from human artists.

I love to hear from readers! Let me know what you're reading and recommending or if you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see in future newsletters.

Thanks!
